Interview with MASTIFF

Melbourne 4 piece groove metal band MASTIFF are currently in the studio working on their upcoming debut album, and are very soon to hit the road for shows in Melbourne and Adelaide with Pistenbroke and Toecutter.

We have taken the opportunity to sit down with the band for an insightful chat about MASTIFF.

What were your inspirations to start playing music when MASTIFF formed back in 2007?
To play music to support our drug habits and various perversions.

What is the meaning behind the name “MASTIFF”?
It is the act of bludgeoning someone to death with a 3 foot rubber dildo shaped in the form of a fist in Romanian.

Who would you say are your major influences?
Alcohol and crack cocaine.

What style do you consider your music to be?
Music to consume mass amounts of drugs and alcohol to.

You’re playing shows in Melbourne and Adelaide in the coming weeks. Being a Melbourne based band, have you played interstate?
We will play anywhere that has beer on tap and Duran Duran on the jukebox.

So you have been in the studio recently working on your debut album.. Do you have a title for the album and when can we expect to see the release?
Self titled and will be done this year.

How has your music evolved or changed since MASTIFF first formed in 2007?
How many dead prostitutes can one stuff into the boot on their car? Some would say 5.... What was the question?

Are there common themes incorporated into the lyrics or style of your music?
Sodomy, beastiality, coprophilia, organised religion, Whoopi Goldberg's genitalia. The usual.

How does MASTIFF go about the songwriting process?
We get a hooker to pop out ping pong balls to a group of midgets that have metal genres written on their tshirts. Whichever midget catches the ping pong ball determines the style we play. The groove metal midget has great hand-eye coordination.

What have you got planned for the future?
Recording the album and playing more shows in Victoria and interstate.
